What's happening in our House Clearance world....
As you may now realise, we aim to recycle as much as possible of the goods & furniture that come from our house clearances. It is always gratifying when we can donate items to those people who can use them again, and reduce what we send to landfill.
In mid-December, we were asked to carry out a house clearance by a gentleman in Cheshire. An elderley relative had passed away & the property had now been sold. We went round to assess what was required and it was pretty clear to us and the client that although the furniture was in good condition, it had little or no resale value. We agreed a price for clearing the property and arrived the following week to undertake the job.
In the meantime, I had heard about three people who were in need of some bits & pieces. One was a friend who had recently got divorced and was moving into a flat on his own. On the day after we had carried out the house clearance, we were able to present my friend with a perfectly servicable freezer, and a single bed for his little boy to sleep in when he comes to stay.
The second person lived in Stockport, again in a flat with very little furniture. We were able to provide him with three wardrobes, a sofa & a lamp.
The third person had been homeless for a while and had just managed to get a flat. He received the keys to the property two days before Christmas and we gave him a pine double bed, a stereo, some chairs, chests of drawers and a big box of mixed kitchen items such as pots, pans, plates etc.
To me, this is recycling at it's best. In fact, it's better than recycling, it's about being able to help people when they really need it. Many of our clients have chosen us for our ability to ''re-home'' furniture & house clearance items that may otherwise have been thrown away. I have come to realise over the years that the primary concern for many people is not necessarily ''how much is the house clearance going to cost?'', it is ''what will happen to my Mum's / Dad's / Auntie's belongings?''
We ALWAYS recycle & re-use as much as possible, UNLESS it is the client's express wishes that we do not do so.
